@btstv No, the ... @btstv No, the optical coating is actually a mineral, which doesn't? react with methanol, ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. What you want to avoid is using a very damp cloth or applying drops of alcohol directly to the lens elements as the fluid may wick into the lens and never escape.
@QuadResponse if ... @QuadResponse if you're talking about diiiiiirty cheap lenses like sigma, tokina, tarmon, vivitar, phoenix, holga, and samyang? then, yeah, that's possibly the case here. real deal lenses don't have painted-on coating.
@Lilkiwiguy87 Not ... @Lilkiwiguy87 Not always, the majority of modern lenses have a coating adding to the surface? of the glass. The process of using the rub can effect the coating over time. Dampen a cloth with saline to clean any stubborn marks and then wipe clean with microfibre cloth. Great video but please note some lenses are coated: watch?v=6mupkmkLPzk
@LuckyBambooExpert ... @LuckyBambooExpert always, always leave a good quality filter for protection? and less hassle cleaning constantly. you can use the lens without a filter but you'll have to take the risks of breaking your lens' front glass element and cleaning the lens constantly. if you want to go filter-less, be sure to use a lens hood.
Is it necessary to ... Is it necessary to have a uv filter on my lens? or can I just use the lens without? it?
@punkthrasher13 his ... @punkthrasher13 his lens is probably already? damaged with glass eating fungus stains all over the glasses.
@LBPguy101 yes but ... @LBPguy101 yes but you'll have to? dry it quickly because it evaporates very fast.
Can I? use 99.99% ... Can I? use 99.99% isopropyl alcohol?
@eyesontoast50 what ... @eyesontoast50 what did u do about? it?
i cleaned my lens ... i cleaned my lens with my breath cause i needed the job done. but the inner lens element fogged up and its still foggy after 20 mins so dont try it, even if you? need it done fast. not worth the risk.
@joeyisfunny uhh ... @joeyisfunny uhh yeah, residue? will happen if you leave it there without drying with another microfiber.
70%??? You should ... 70%??? You should use only? 90% alcohol!! Less residue after evaporation.
@IamNoble7 dude, ... @IamNoble7 dude, you're not supposed to bring a cold lens into a warm environment suddenly without allowing it to acclimate to temperature change first. put the lens in the? bag and leave it there for 20 minutes after getting indoors. this applies the same when going out into a cold environment as well. lens is having trouble focusing because the condensation (moisture built-up) is interrupting the AF motor's circuits. use this cleaning technique and remember to leave the lens in bag when needed.
Ok so i recently ... Ok so i recently went out with my camera in the cold then went back indoors where the camera? lens fogged up. i noticed it had smudges on it so i wiped it with a wet wipe that was apparently good for cameraa lenses.. it left tiny hair like things on the lens.. so far picture quality is the same but i think its having trouble focusing... any suggestions?
We're afraid it's a ... We're afraid it's a busted myth. Coating is actually an element that is mixed the with glass.? It's completely impossible to chip the coating off. On dirty cheap glass filters (i.e. Hoya, Tiffen, etc.) on other hand, it's possible.
I heard that you ... I heard that you should NOT? use alcohol. Many lenses have coating with can be damaged by the alcohol. Is there ANY truth to this?
Clean environment ... Clean environment means cool environment (free of dust and? moisture).? It's not necessary to clean the lens every time you're done with it; clean when needed.
i have a question, ... i have a question, should i keep my lens? in cool environment warm environment? and also do i have clean the lens every after using it? pls advise. tnx
B+W 52mm UV Haze ... B+W 52mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC, about $35 (this is a quality glass filter).
Simply keep the lens dry, clean, and cool. Leave in bag for 20 minutes to acclimate? to the temperature change before using (leave-in-bag part applies to lenses that aren't sealed against dust and moisture).
Where can I get a ... Where can I get a reasonably priced UV filter for my 18-55mm nikkor lens? I'm just starting out as a photographer with my first DSLR (nikon d3100) and I'm getting really scared reading of all these complications with? lenses (fungus...) What would be good for keeping my lens safe?
Yikes! Quickly, ... Yikes! Quickly, remove the lens and put it in a Ziploc bag and put it away from any object that has glass (lenses, TV, etc.) to prevent the fungus from spreading.
Unfortunately, no, you can't use it because the fungus is contagious and can spread to your camera. Once your camera picks it up, it'll also spread on your other lenses as well.
If your lens isn't sealed against dust and moisture, keep it dry and cool. Leave in bag for 20 minutes to acclimate? to temperature change first before using.
@Lilkiwiguy87 i did ... @Lilkiwiguy87 i did check the images and yes they are Lens Fungus. So i guess i need to buy my new lens. But,ummmm. would i still be able to use it if the fungus is all over the lens? or maybe the outcome of each shot will be bad. what should i do to? prevent this from happening?
thnanks for the reply by the way. i appreciate it!
Cobweb-like shape ... Cobweb-like shape on the glass? Can you please go to Images.google.com and type in Lens Fungus. See if it matches what you're seeing in your lens. If so, unfortunately,? lens fungus cannot be removed because it's inside the glass. Lens fungus basically spreads and eats the glass elements. Nikon will not repair this under warranty because we're afraid you're at fault.
i have a question, ... i have a question, i didn't use my SLR in 2-3weeks i guess and was placed in the bag. And when i came and used it, i noticed that there are some kind of spider's web circles inside the lens. I don't know if it's a moist or something.? i'ts actualy attached on the glass on the inside and i don't know how to get rid of it. Hope you can help me.thanks!

@Lilkiwiguy87
Hey ... @Lilkiwiguy87
Hey how you doing:) don't get me wrong, I'm not tying to argue here:) I'm just suggesting that Microdear fiber cloths are really good as I have tried? many different brands and they leave the least amount of dust when cleaning:) cheers.
Uhm, yeah, most ... Uhm, yeah, most microfibers leave dust and lint sometimes. That's why we added "This tutorial does NOT guarantee successful results at the first time cleaning the lens; it may require several tries to? have it cleaned successfully."
